The US government, its NATO allies, and Ukraine have a multitude of channels for dialogue they all should be explored. One element of risk reduction could involve sustained, high-level US military-to-military contacts with Russia to reduce the likelihood of miscalculation. But at a minimum, the United States must keep the door open to principled engagement with Moscow that reduces the dangerous increase in nuclear risk the war has fostered. There is no clear pathway for forging a just peace that discourages future aggression under the shadow of nuclear weapons. The invasion and annexation of Ukrainian territory have also violated international norms in ways that may embolden others to take actions that challenge previous understandings and threaten stability. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has increased the risk of nuclear weapons use, raised the specter of biological and chemical weapons use, hamstrung the world’s response to climate change, and hampered international efforts to deal with other global concerns. The continuing stream of disinformation about bioweapons laboratories in Ukraine raises concerns that Russia itself may be thinking of deploying such weapons, which many experts believe it continues to develop.Īt a meeting of the Security Council on March 11, 2022, Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, accused the United States and Ukraine of concealing a bioweapons program. In the context of a hot war and against the backdrop of nuclear threats, Russia’s false accusations that Ukraine planned to use radiological dispersal devices, chemical weapons, and biological weapons take on new meaning as well. Countries dependent on Russian oil and gas have sought to diversify their supplies and suppliers, leading to expanded investment in natural gas exactly when such investment should have been shrinking. The war’s effects are not limited to an increase in nuclear danger they also undermine global efforts to combat climate change. This would eliminate mutual inspections, deepen mistrust, spur a nuclear arms race, and heighten the possibility of a nuclear exchange.Īs UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned in August, the world has entered “a time of nuclear danger not seen since the height of the Cold War.” Unless the two parties resume negotiations and find a basis for further reductions, the treaty will expire in February 2026. (Editor's note: This picture was taken during a media trip organized by the Russian army.) Photo by Andrey Borodulin/AFP via Getty ImagesĪs Russia’s war on Ukraine continues, the last remaining nuclear weapons treaty between Russia and the United States, New START, stands in jeopardy. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine is Europe's largest and among the 10 largest in the world. Efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency to secure these plants so far have been rebuffed.Ī Russian serviceman patrols the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on May 1, 2022. Russia has also brought its war to the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia nuclear reactor sites, violating international protocols and risking widespread release of radioactive materials. In 1994, Russia joined the United States and United Kingdom in Budapest, Hungary, to solemnly declare that it would "respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine" and "refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine." These assurances were made explicitly on the understanding that Ukraine would relinquish nuclear weapons on its soil and sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty-both of which Ukraine did. Russia’s recent actions contravene decades of commitments by Moscow. The possibility that the conflict could spin out of anyone’s control remains high. Also, Russia’s war on Ukraine has raised profound questions about how states interact, eroding norms of international conduct that underpin successful responses to a variety of global risks.Īnd worst of all, Russia’s thinly veiled threats to use nuclear weapons remind the world that escalation of the conflict-by accident, intention, or miscalculation-is a terrible risk. The war in Ukraine may enter a second horrifying year, with both sides convinced they can win. Ukraine’s sovereignty and broader European security arrangements that have largely held since the end of World War II are at stake. The Clock now stands at 90 seconds to midnight-the closest to global catastrophe it has ever been. This year, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moves the hands of the Doomsday Clock forward, largely (though not exclusively) because of the mounting dangers of the war in Ukraine.

Unlike indirect TPMS, direct TPMS gets a reading on each individual tire, making it more accurate than an indirect TPMS. These measurements are sent to a central control module where it is analyzed and if the tire pressure is uneven, your tire pressure warning light will illuminate. Tire temperature readings may also be provided. Direct TPMS: Direct TPMS uses pressure sensors that are attached to each of your vehicle's tires to monitor the tire pressure, as part of your tire's valve system. This signal is transmitted via the tire pressure warning light on your vehicle's dashboard. If one tire is spinning faster than the others, it means it is underinflated. This measurement is sent to the on board computer and is compared to the speed of your vehicle's other tires. Indirect TPMS: The indirect TPMS measures the rate of tire revolution with the sensors that your vehicles anti-lock braking system uses. There are two types of tire pressure monitoring systems that ultimately result in the illumination of your dashboard light. You can also get TPMS sensors placed on spare or seasonal tires. TPMS batteries generally last for 100,000 miles or for 7-10 years. If something is wrong with your TPMS sensor, it may need to be replaced. We have the proper service kit needed to repair your TPMS, which includes a grommet, retaining nut, core and cap. Give Beamer Tire of High Point at 33 a call if this occurs. If your tire pressure warning light flashes for 60-90 seconds after turning on your vehicle then stays on, this means your TPMS system is not working properly. When the temperatures rise and you drive your vehicle throughout the day, the light may disappear, but it is still a good idea to get your tires checked out whenever you see the TPMS light on. This is because tire pressure generally decreases as temperatures drop at night, which will cause the TPMS light to turn on. Sometimes, your tire pressure warning light will turn on and off throughout the day. This is a crucial time to get a tire inflation service on your vehicle. When the tire pressure warning light first turns on, it is probably because one of your tires is underinflated. The TPMS system was created because of the influx of accidents caused by uneven tire pressure levels. We at Beamer Tire of High Point can also give you this information. To determine the proper tire inflation for your vehicle, you can look in your owner's manual to see what tire pressure your vehicle manufacturer recommends. It is important to keep your tires properly inflated for ideal driving conditions. This warning light looks like a horseshoe and has an exclamation point in the center of it. This is done through a warning light that will pop up on your vehicle's dashboard. This system will warn you if the air pressure in one or more of your vehicle's tires is too low (if there is a 25% decrease or more). During the initial height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Nintendo began to announce games like Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Paper Mario: The Origami King via Twitter. Some fans of the video game giant are prone to meet disappointment with verbal backlash online, even if their anticipation was based on rumors (for instance, with the Nintendo Switch OLED model announcement this July). Nintendo is also increasingly careful with building up too much undue hype via social media. Silksong could even be a "one last thing" reveal akin to Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals from the April 14 Indie World Showcase. If Silksong were to appear at an Indie World Showcase, chances are it would receive a big spotlight given popular fervor around the game. The developer has not been shy about dissuading its fans' hopes in the past, notably when Team Cherry confirmed Hollow Knight: Silksong was skipping E3 2021 earlier this year. Team Cherry has not commented about the upcoming Indie World Showcase on its social media channels, and ironically this is perhaps the best indication its game may appear. Hollow Knight: Silksong Is A Showcase Contender However, based on previous patterns for Nintendo and Team Cherry, there's still hope for some kind of update. There's nothing to indicate Hollow Knight: Silksong will appear at the August 11 showcase as of this writing, so it seems fans asking about the game are setting themselves up to repeat the cycle of disappointment seen in numerous events over the last two years. RELATED: Everything You Need to Know About the Hollow Knight-Inspired Crowsworn The sequel to Team Cherry's Hollow Knight was announced in 2019, but little information has come out since, so it's a common refrain for anxious fans to ask about the game before seemingly every announced event (either genuinely or, at this point, for the meme). Ultimate at the event, and others asking about high-profile indies - namely Hollow Knight: Silksong. Comments under the post were predictable, with some wondering if there would be announcements for AAA games like Super Smash Bros. Video game enthusiasts looking forward to Hollow Knight: Silksong are likely aware of history repeating itself.Īn AugNintendo Indie World Showcase was announced via Nintendo of America's Twitter this morning, promising "roughly 20 minutes" of information. German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche discussed "eternal recurrence" in a few works, including the 1882 book The Gay Science he posited a hypothetical idea that "all events in the world repeat themselves in the same sequence through an eternal series of cycles," according to a 2017 breakdown by the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. A more colloquial twist about those not learning from history being condemned to repeat it was offered by 20th century Spanish philosopher George Santayana. Update 8/11: Unfortunately, Hollow Knight: Silksong was not at the Nintendo Indie World Showcase. John Calhoun repeated the same experiment 25 more times, and each time the result was the same.Ĭalhoun's scientific work has been used as a model for interpreting social collapse, and his research serves as a focal point for the study of urban sociology. By 1973, he had killed the last mouse in the Universe 25. Two years after the start of the experiment, the last baby of the colony was born. Among the endangered mice, homosexuality was observed, and, at the same time, cannibalism increased, despite the fact that there was plenty of food. As time went on, juvenile mortality reached 100%, and reproduction reached zero. 'Hamlet' Shakespeare In 1968, American biologist Carl Horne conducted an experiment called 'Universe 25'. At one point, "beautiful males" and "isolated females" made up the majority of the population.Īccording to Calhoun, the death phase consisted of two stages: the "first death" and "second death." The former was characterized by the loss of purpose in life beyond mere existence - no desire to mate, raise young, or establish a role within society. The demise of the mouse utopia: warning from Universe 25, will humans follow in their footsteps 07:50 introduction: Survival or destruction is a question. They refused to mate with the females or to "fight" for their space. Then, a new class of male rodents appeared the so-called "beautiful mice". There was a low birth rate and, at the same time, an increase in mortality in younger rodents. As time went on, the females showed more and more aggressive behavior, isolation elements, and lack of reproductive mood. As a result, the females did not protect themselves and in turn, became aggressive towards their young. The larger rodents began to attack the group, with the result that many males began to "collapse" psychologically. When the number of rodents reached 600, a hierarchy was formed between them, and the so-called "wretches" appeared. However, after 315 days, their reproduction began to decrease significantly. In the beginning, he placed four pairs of mice that in a short time, began to reproduce, resulting in their population growing rapidly. More specifically, Calhoun built the so-called "Paradise of Mice", a specially designed space where rodents had an Abundance of food and water, as well as a large living space. The idea of "Universe 25" Came from the American scientist John Calhoun, who created an "ideal world" in which hundreds of mice would live and reproduce. The "Universe 25" experiment is one of the most terrifying experiments in the history of science, which, through the behavior of a colony of mice, scientists attempt to explain human societies. He would later perform similar experiments on mice, from 1968 to 1972. Calhoun coined the term "behavioral sink" in his Februreport in an article titled "Population Density and Social Pathology" in Scientific American on the rat experiment. In the experiments, Calhoun and his researchers created a series of "rat utopias" – enclosed spaces in which rats were given unlimited access to food and water, enabling unfettered population growth. The term and concept derive from a series of over-population experiments Calhoun conducted on Norway rats between 19. Calhoun to describe a collapse in behavior which can result from overcrowding. "Behavioral sink" is a term invented by ethologist John B. When I ask if he wants to be fucked in the ass, he always responds with an emphatic "Yes Mistress!" He's learned to love it, and love it he does. I like to keep him stretched out so he's ready to take my strap on cock whenever I like. For the most part, his tongue is to remain impaled in my asshole, but he takes an opportunity to lick and kiss the curve of my perfectly heart shaped derrière from time to time.Īside from his slave collar and leash, the only other thing my slave is allowed to wear when he is at my mercy is a butt plug. I use my free hand to masturbate, rubbing my throbbing clit and sliding my fingers into my extremely moist pussy. I've trained him to be an expert analingist and I make him please me for as long as I can stand it. His tongue feels good slurping at my backside, so I revel in the moment as he services my rear. He'd gladly suffocate in my rear or the folds of my pussy, but he's much more useful alive. I use the leash to pull him tight when I want him to suffer, and let go a little when he needs to breath. It isn't long however, before he remembers that his tongue is required to lick my crevice and my tight asshole. My submissive nuzzles me for a moment he's an ass man and loves it when I give him this treat. I bend a little at the waist and support myself with my free hand against the wall. Setting the cane aside, I pick up the end of the leash attached to his slave collar and turn around I reach the leash through my legs and pull his face into my ass. Once I'm satisfied I reluctantly push his face away from my crotch and step out of my panties. I shudder over top of him as I slicken his lips, nose and chin with my wetness. Several minutes of his dedicated effort brings me to a hard orgasm. He is relentless, which is how I taught him to eat pussy. I writhe on his tongue, pushing my body down onto his face, willing his tongue to go deeper and deeper inside of me. He's not allowed to use his hands, but he's good enough at eating me out that he doesn't have to. He laps eagerly at my pussy, running his tongue between the folds of my wet twat and up over my clitty. I'm not completely shaven, but I keep myself neat down there, I like watching him look up at me through my short brown curlies. I nod once, and he buries his face in my cunt. He knows he has other work so he leaves my feet and looks up at me before he dares move his mouth toward my pussy. I indulge his foot fetish and let him linger on my toes a little. He cleans me quickly and thoroughly, making sure to get every last drop. This is the only command he needs to stop cleaning my panties and begin licking up any pee that might have gotten onto my legs, feet or shoes. When I'm finished, I take the long cane I'm holding in my left hand and whack him on his ass. I shift my hips and pee down his naked back. He's practiced enough to know not to stop licking. As he cleans my lingerie with his mouth, I let a long stream of piss rain down on the back of his head. I made him bring me to orgasm with his mouth through my panties when he first arrived, and now he is commanded to lick my cream from the garment. My slave dutifully crawls to me on hands and knees and puts his mouth over the moist panties. I stare down at my naked slave with my emerald green eyes and point at my undies with a French manicured index finger. the cotton crotch on full display at my feet. In the year of its introduction, the lens won an EXC!TE award and was named Lens of the Year at the Camera Grand Prix. The lens was designed specifically for crop body DSLRs enabling a crop factor adjusted (full frame equivalent) of f/2.88 for Canon or f/2.7 for Nikon crop body DSLRs across an equivalent range of 28mm-56mm (Canon full frame adjusted) or 27mm-53mm (Nikon full frame adjusted). This lens, at its time of manufacturing, was considered a game changer due to it being the only standard zoom boasting a constant f/1.8 aperture. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens is a fast, constant-aperture wide standard zoom lens made by Sigma Corporation. Thanks for your continued support.Art series 5 SLD glass elements, 4 glassmold aspherical elements, wide aperture Interestingly, even the 18-35/1.8 is in your possession, so it seems that at least your copy does not have an AF performance that should be rated a '4', or would you have kept it anyhow. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens is available from Photography Bay’s trusted retail partner, B&H Photo, at the following links:īy making your photography purchases at B&H Photo through these links, you are helping Photography Bay to continue bring quality camera tests, news and reviews. Look for Sigma’s new line of Art lenses to continue to shake up the DSLR industry. A f/1.8 aperture zoom at this price cannot be ignored. Sigma has achieved something no other manufacture has achieved to date. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens is truly a revolutionary lens. (And that generally applies to all photo gear you purchase…) But if that kind of thing scares you off, just make sure you buy from a reputable vendor (like B&H) who you know will accept returns for defective products. It happens to all manufacturers and I personally own a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 that’s probably eight or nine years old now and still focuses great. They sent a second copy and it appeared to focus fine. Delivers the highest level of brightness and beautiful bokeh effects, the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Pentax K is an advanced wide-angle prime that. I sent the lens back to Sigma and their engineers could not repeat my experiences (even though I encountered the issue on both a 60D and a Rebel SL1). I’ve read personal reviews from a couple other users that have experienced similar issues with their Sigma 18-35mm lenses. A remarkable feat of design, this Sigma zoom lens is the first of its kind - a wide to standard zoom with a. The lens dock is a great tool for these new breed of Sigma lenses however, the focus calibration can take a few short minutes to several hours depending on whether you need to set and test all focal lengths at all distance ranges. When I got the first lens, it was way off at 18mm and a little off at 24mm and 35mm. One area of concern, which some of you will recall if you have been following my coverage of this lens, is a focusing issue with the first review sample that I received. And then consider how it stacks up against prime lenses along its focal length range – delivering a DxOMark Score of 27, while Canon primes within its zoom range garner a score of 25 and 22 when all are shot on the Canon 70D. It roasts other lenses that you might compare in the “fast zoom” category. The thing about the Sigma f/1.8 is that the image quality backs up the bag-o-primes analogy. While this analogy can be drawn for practically any zoom lens (and it’s a great tool to use to force yourself to work the scene rather than work the lens), you can’t get a f/1.8 aperture across these focal lengths on any other single lens in the world. It’s like carrying a 28mm f/1.8, a 35mm f/1.8 and a 50mm f/1.8 lens in your bag (taking into account the crop factor) without ever needing to remove the lens. The 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM next-generation large-aperture standard zoom lens is the world’s first to deliver F1.8 brightness throughout the zoom range. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens becomes more like a bag of prime lenses than a do-it-all zoom lens. The decreased size of the APS-C sensor allowed Sigma to build a f/1.8 zoom lens without the penalty of making a monster of lens that would be required to cover a full frame sensor. I equate the feel close to the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS lens. At 1.78 lbs, the lens is not quite a bear however, you’ll definitely notice an increase and size and weight from other variable aperture zoom lenses built for APS-C cameras (e.g., Canon’s EF-S 18-135mm IS STM and Nikon’s 18-105mm VR). The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens is built for APS-C format cameras, providing a 27-52.5mm equivalent full frame field of view.
Series A fundraising usually comes from Venture Capital with some Angel investors being common as well. See recent news articles about companies announcing their Seed Funding RoundĪgain, not all startups who raise a seed round go on to raise a Series A, but after raising a seed round, the average time until a startup raises a Series A is 22 months. The typical pre-money valuation for a company raising a seed round is $7 Million, with $4.5 Million to $11 Million being common. Seed funding amounts can vary significantly, but in 2020 the average amount raised in the US for a seed round was $2 Million, with the typical range being $1 Million to $5 Million. The name “Seed” is of course a reference to the seed of a plant, and investors and entrepreneurs hope that with this initial seed of capital, the company can emerge and grow. Seed round investments often come from a mix of family & friends, angel investors, venture capital firms that specialize in early stage startups, and even other sources like crowdfunding. The Seed round is the most common way for companies to raise their first outside investment. This funding round would be used to test out the founders’ hypothesis and position the company to raise a traditional seed round. There are exceptions depending on industry and resources, but it’s not common for companies at this stage to hire more than one or two full-time employees, if any. The amount raised typically is less than $500,000. Sometimes startup founders will raise a Pre-Seed round from their own savings, friends and family, or early stage angel investors to fund the initial launch and setup of the business. Of course, most startups will not make it all the way to an IPO or successful acquisition, but as they mature and make it to each additional round, the chances of success generally increase. For most successful startups, each funding round increases the total value of the company, increases the amount invested compared with the previous round, increases the total number of employees, and decreases the risk associated with the company. As a rough average, successful startups typically take 10 years to go from launch to IPO and take around 2 years between each funding round.Įach time the company raises another round of funding there is a new valuation of the company where the total value of the company is determined. Some startups do not need to raise Series D or E rounds in route to an IPO. The “Series” in the name refers to the class of preferred stock. The series of funding stages typically includes Pre-seed or Seed, Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D, and sometimes Series E, and finally an IPO. This return or “liquidity event” will usually come in the form of the startup being acquired, or the startup having an IPO or initial public offering when it transitions from a private company to a publicly traded company. Even if a startup is profitable, entrepreneurs and investors will increase the capital funding in order to grow and expand faster, and ultimately have a larger return. Startup investors fund entrepreneurs and take an ownership percentage of the new companies because they hope to gain a significant return on the investment. Knowing the general nature and distinctions of each round can help you understand the focus, priorities, and risk of startups based on where they are in the funding journey. Still, there are many similarities and patterns in the typical funding stages. The typical transactions of the different funding stages of startups are constantly changing, and can vary by industry, region, and other factors. These rounds of investment or “series” funding stages follow certain patterns, which have developed over the years. In the startup investing world, high-growth companies commonly raise several successive rounds of investment as they grow the business from an initial untested product or service into a proven, mature company that generates substantial revenue. These investors specialize in funding risky, but potentially promising companies for a significant return on their investment. For startup companies that aspire to be high growth, this financing most often comes from private “angel” investors or Venture Capital firms. Starting a new company usually requires some sort of initial funding or capital investment. Set the configured brush via graph ->setBrush(.). Fills under graph or between two graphs: All brushes the QPainter-framework provides can be used in graph fills: solid, various patterns, textures, gradients, colors, transparency, etc.If you don't want any scatter symbols to show at the data points, set the graph's scatter style to QCPScatterStyle ::ssNone. Scatter symbol: Call graph ->setScatterStyle(.) to change the look of the scatter point symbols.Set the configured pen via graph ->setPen(.). solid, dashed, dotted, different widths, colors, transparency, etc. Line pen: All pens the QPainter-framework provides are available, e.g.For all possible line styles, see the QCPGraph ::LineStyle documentation or the line style demo screenshot on the introduction page. Line style: Call graph ->setLineStyle(.).The look of the graph is characterized by many factors, all of which can be modified. Then you can adjust the margin manually via customPlot ->axisRect() ->setMargins(.). It makes the axis rect shrink if the tick labels and axis labels need more space. If you don't wish that the margin is determined automatically, disable the behaviour by calling customPlot ->axisRect() ->setAutoMargins( QCP ::msNone). This is due to the automatic margin calculation, which is turned on by default. The tick labels (the numbers) of the axes never reach outside the widget border, even when they get wider. See the QCPAxisTicker documentation for details. for time spans, calendar dates, categories, pi (or other symbolic units) and logarithmic axes. You can adjust the approximate number of ticks that the ticker tries to create via xAxis ->ticker() ->setTickCount(6). The default axis ticker is well suited for simple numerical displays, however there are specialized classes e.g. This is an instance of type QCPAxisTicker, and is accessible e.g. The tick step and labeling is chosen automatically, by the axis ticker that is currently used by the axis. The output should look something like shown below. Such user interactions are for example dragging the axis ranges with the mouse and zooming with the mouse wheel. Note that a replot will automatically happen when the widget is resized and when the built-in user interactions are triggered. To make any kind of changes to the plot appear on screen, call customPlot ->replot(). Their range defines which portion of the plot is currently visible: customPlot ->xAxis ->setRange(-1, 1). So if you define the left axis as "key axis" and the bottom as "value axis", you can plot a graph that's standing upright on the left of the plot. By default a QCustomPlot widget has four axes: customPlot ->xAxis, yAxis, xAxis2, and yAxis2 of type QCPAxis, corresponding to the bottom, left, top and right axis. The reason why QCustomPlot uses the terminology key and value instead of x and y is to allow more flexibility in assigning which axis has what role. via customPlot ->graph(0) ->setData(.), for example in the form of two QVector for x and y ( key and value). Then you assign the graph some data points, e.g. You can create a new graph in the plot via customPlot ->addGraph(). If you have promoted a widget in QtCreator, you'll likely access the respective widget via ui->customPlot (or whatever name you gave the widget) instead. The tutorials use customPlot as a pointer to the QCustomPlot instance. |
